Core Tip: Malaysia has broken ground on a MYR762 ($237.30m) livestock center in Sabah. The new center, known as the Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre (KILC), will be the first livestock center on a large scale in the country.
The 2,084-acre center is a flagship project under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).Through the center, Malaysia aims to increase the population of high-quality yield cows, and also to develop a sustainable breeding structure for cattle.

The center will have 2,000 dairy cattle, which will produce 6 million liters of milk every year. The dairy products produced at the center will be distributed in Sabah, in Peninsular Malaysia as well as in Brunei.

As part of the agreement, Brunei, through its subsidiary Annam, will hold 40% stake in KILC through its MYR120m ($37.3m) investment in the center.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said that KILC is estimated to generate investment opportunities in the region of MYR763m ($237.3m) for the interior areas, and thus would become a catalyst for agriculture and agro-based development in Malaysia.

KILC is expected to start producing its first batch of milk next year, with an average of 12 liters a day.
