The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has granted Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification to Australia’s Tassal, the first salmon producer in that country to be certified at farm level.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the certification of Tassal,” said Peter Redmond, GAA’s V.P. of global development. “Its commitment shows that the issue of responsibly farming aquaculture is not just a global or national issue, but a regional and local one.
The GAA grants certification to companies that have been evaluated by a third party according to GAA standards. In an announcement of Tassal’s certification, the GAA said Tassal is the first salmon farm in Australia to get the recognition. Tassal is Australia’s largest aquaculture company, employing about 700 people.
“Tassal is the first salmon farm company in Australia to certify to BAP, which is an achievement in itself,” said Linda Sams, Tassal’s chief sustainability officer. “It is another example of what we are doing to externally certify our products to best practice measurement.
