The Journal Gazette reports Unilever announced Friday that it is closing its Good Humor-Breyers plant in Huntington. The company said it has too much manufacturing capacity and production will be moved to other Unilever ice cream sites.
Mayor Brooks Fetters said it is sad to see a plant that had been in town for 100 years leave.
United Food & Commercial Workers International Union Local 835 President David Altman said it doesn’t appear likely union members would be place on preferred hiring lists at other plants, saying they will receive severance packages.
