US-based poultry processing firm Mountaire Farms plans to invest $8m to expand its facility in Robeson County, North Carolina, in order to meet the increased demand for its products.
As part of the expansion, the company will expand the existing 60,000ft2 hatchery by 20,500ft2 and will increase the overall chick production from 100,000 per week to more than 2 million.
The expansion project will enable the company to offer more frozen and boneless products across the country and worldwide. It is expected to create adding another 90 production jobs.
The Robeson County Board of Commissioners have approved nearly $90,000 in economic incentives for Mountaire Farms for the project.
This is the company's fourth expansion since acquiring the plant in 1996. The plant currently has a workforce of 2,300 people.
Mountaire Farms, a privately owned company based in Millsboro, Delaware, offers poultry processing, case ready poultry, and export. The company has operations in Delaware, Maryland and North Carolina. Its customers include Cargill, Subway and other restaurant chains.
