Buffalo Trace Distillery (BTD), a Kentucky-based family-owned company, is to add a new uncut and unfiltered bourbon whiskey, Stagg Jr Bourbon, to its portfolio in August 2013.
Dubbed as the younger version of George T Stagg bourbon, the Stagg Jr is unfiltered and offers complex flavors of bourbon right from the barrel.
The current release will be the first batch comprised of barrels aged for eight and nine years. It is bottled at 67.2% ABV or 134.4 proof.
According to BTD master distiller Harlen Wheatley, the whiskey has a rich, sweet, chocolate and brown sugar flavors mingled in perfect balance with bold, rye spiciness.
"The boundless finish lingers with hints of cherries, cloves and smokiness," Whatley added.
BTD bourbon marketing director Kris Comstock said they have been aging these barrels for years in anticipation of this Stagg Jr offering.
"George T. Stagg has won countless awards, but we're delighted to introduce Stagg Jr., which should be a bit more accessible," Comstock added.
The initial release will be limited, but many batches will be released each year. The other releases of Stagg Jr will have different proofs, claims the company.
Stagg Jr Bourbon will be available at suggested retail price of $49.99 per 750ml bottle.
