Squid and cuttlefish products from Italian company INPA SpA have recently earned Friend of the Sea sustainability certification, the group said in a release.
The company acquires its products from Vietnam, where an international certification body studied the fishing operations. The company, according to Friend of the Sea, fishes off bamboo boats using lamps and hook and line. There is no bycatch, all vessels are registered and there is no indication that any of the vessels is on the list of illegal, unreported and regulated fishing boats.
"We believe it is extremely important that, as a consequence of Friend of the Sea audit, the fishery has improved its social and environmental policies,” said Simone Perzia, quality manager of Inpa. “This way we can also contribute to improvements in fishermen's lives and the coastal environment."
