One of the world’s best-selling Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Glen Grant, today launched its 'Five Decades Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky’, in celebration of its Master Distiller, Dennis Malcolm’s five decades with Glen Grant.
The launch is the first held in Southeast Asia for this limited edition and the event was officiated by Dennis Malcolm and Samuel Choong, General Manager of Sunrise Wines & Spirits Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of the brand in Malaysia. Malaysia was chosen as the first place in Southeast Asia in recognition of the increasingly growing Scotch whisky market in the country.
"The naturally pure essence of Glen Grant is reflected in the woodland setting of the distillery itself; where dappled sunlight, pure highland air and fresh spring water come together in celebration of nature's delicate and complex character. The other special characteristic of the Glen Grant distillery is the meticulous selection and limited use of the maturation casks, which bring Glen Grant to its highly acclaimed, softly fruity, intensely fresh natural taste," said Dennis.
The Five Decades Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky is described as having a light golden barley appearance, with a bouquet of rich and smooth marriage of vanilla, honey and Oloroso sherry, which creates a wonderful mouth-feel of orange blossom and honey. Intensely creamy, with sweet toffee and mellow raisin fruit hitting the taste buds of one's palate, the whisky finishes with a smooth and fruity lingering aftertaste.
Dennis added that what truly sets Glen Grant apart are the unique slender stills and special purifiers, which imbue the whisky with its distinctively light, yet complex flavour. "This distillation process, unique to the Glen Grant distillery, ensures that the spirit produced is light, but at the same time complex, allowing only the purest vapour to pass from the still to the condenser," he said.
Dennis was born on distillery grounds in 1946 and started his career at Glen Grant's distillery in 1961 as an apprentice cooper at the age of 15. After developing a passion for single malts over the years, he has embarked upon a lifelong journey along the prestigious whisky trail, becoming Distillery Manager and Ambassador for an impressive array of famous distillers.
In 2006, Dennis returned to Glen Grant to pursue his passion and fulfil his dream of becoming Master Distiller. His commitment to the company led him to his 50th Anniversary at the Glen Grant Distillery, marking a remarkable milestone for his passion, lifelong commitment and outstanding contributions to the Scotch whisky industry.
Speaking at the event, Samuel Choong, General Manager of Sunrise Wines and Spirits Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of Glen Grant in Malaysia said, "Over the years, Glen Grant, as a single malt super premium product has been making inroads into the Malaysian market, gaining a presence in several major hotels as well as being involved in major luxury events such as the 'The Art of Time' exhibition by Swiss Watch Gallery."
He further elaborated, "Seeing that the Malaysian market has developed an appreciation for fine whisky, it is indeed timely that we be the first country in the region to launch the 'Glen Grant Five Decades Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky'. We have a sizeable premium Scotch whisky market and more importantly, consumers in Malaysia are increasingly growing in sophistication in their choice of whiskies."
