Pecan nut producers from Buenos Aires and Entre Rios who are a part of Argentina's Pecan Producers Consortium (CAPPecan) made the first export to Hong Kong, China. After much work, the first container with 10,000 kilos of pecan nuts finally departed to China on November 1.
The first meeting of the Cluster Pecan Nut Export Group, created under the Export Promotion Programme by the ExportAr Foundation, took place on September 28 in Concepción del Uruguay. The group's goal was to become a strategic tool to achieve associating small and medium enterprises, to reduce costs and enhance their export experience and/or initiative.
The producers exchanged information on the sector and shared experiences during the meeting. They also analysed the specific case of pecan shell exports to China. They also discussed the roadmap for the development of the export plans for the pecan nut, with or without shells, in the short term as well as the export of pecan value-added products in the medium and long term.
"This achievement comforts us greatly," said CAPPecan's coordinator, Javier Rabinovich. "It confirms our goals of producing quality pecans to supply international markets. Now we have to multiply this volume so we can become important players. We couldn't have done it without CAPPecan's network."
Indeed, articulating institutions and export organizations was very important to achieve this first export. It is a first big step for Argentina's Pecan sector.
