Stone Independent Research, Inc. of Syracuse, NY is recalling 1,040 units of Zanocap Scientific Weight Loss 500 mg capsules because it contains undeclared milk (whey protein). People who have an allergy to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected product.
Zanocap was sold to one customer who further distributed the product nationwide through internet sales. The affected lot was distributed beginning on June 1st, 2013.
Zanocap is a dietary supplement packaged in a white plastic bottle containing 90 capsules per bottle. The product label is white with blue and black print. The affected lot code is 10W15013 with an expiration date of 05/2015. No other lots of this product are affected by the recall.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The issue was discovered during an FDA inspection of the production facility. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the lot of Zanocap containing whey protein (milk) was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes.
