One of Lidl’s own label blended malt whiskies has been picked over rival brands 10 times the price by expert Jim Murray in the latest Whisky Bible edition. The chain’s Glen Orchy 5-year-old blended malt whisky (RRP £13.49/ 70cl) scored a total of 88.5 points out of 100 in the latest whisky guide, placing it in the revered category of "Very good to excellent Whiskies definitely worth buying".

The chain noted that in contrast, the branded Imperial Tribute blended whisky (RRP £125.99) and the Prime Blue 12-year-old whisky (RRP £99.95) scored fewer than 83 points.

This is the second own label whisky from Lidl that has been given a rating of excellence by whisky legend, Jim Murray, who awarded Lidl's 33-year-old Maxwell Whisky "Superstar" status last Christmas.
