The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has amended a notice on the seasons for the sea cucumber fishery in federal waters off the Yucatan Peninsula.

According to the document, a temporary ban on fishing for sea cucumber (Isostichopus badionotus) has been put in place from 00:00 pm on 24 December, 2013 to 24:00 hours 24 February, 2014.

The sea cucumber is a resource of considerable commercial importance for local fishermen, and so its sustainable use is demanded by SAGARPA, through the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA).
