According toPeru the vice president of AGAP, José Antonio Gómez Bazán, Peruvian exports of Hass avocado will amount to 140,000 tons this year, 40% more than what was achieved in 2013, when 100,000 tons were shipped.

This increase, he pointed out, would be due to an increased demand for the product by the United States and Europe, the country's major markets.

"In theory, the Chilean market will be open to the export of fresh Hass avocado without quarantine treatment. We're waiting for SENASA to give us the green light. This would be an important market for us this year."

He also indicated that they planned to send Hass avocado to Japan this campaign, which runs between March and September, but that they still hadn't received any authorization.

Regarding the price of the product for this year, he predicted it would average about U.S. $1.65 per kilo, FOB price, compared to 1.55 per kilo FOB recorded in 2013.

José Antonio Gómez noted that, currently, ProHass has 11,000 hectares of products among its members, which produce 70% of Peru's Hass avocado export volume.
