It was a double win for local food company Dunbia at a prestigious awards ceremony held recently in Manchester.
The Meat & Poultry Processing Awards recognise those companies in the meat sector who have excelled in certain areas of business including the supply chain, the environment, operations and people.
Neil Swann who is General Manager for Dunbia’s Primary site in Dungannon picked up the title of ‘Young Processor of the Year’ in what was an extremely competitive category.
Neil who has a first class honours degree in Economics and Business Management, and won the KPMG Award for the highest performance in BSc Economics joined Dunbia on the graduate scheme in 2009.
Neil’s proactive attitude and natural managerial flair was quickly realised and in 2011 he was appointed as General Manager of the Primary facility with direct responsibility for up to 400 people. Speaking after collecting the award Neil said: “I am very happy and pleased to have won this award.” He continued: “It is great to be acknowledged and hopefully it will be a springboard to continue my career in the meat industry.”
At the same awards Dunbia, in partnership with M Keys Farms collected the ‘Supply Chain Initiative of the Year’ award for the Pig Innovation Centre in Co. Antrim.
The Pig Innovation Centre is a joint venture between Dunbia and M Keys Farms and became operational in January 2014 focusing on researching higher welfare, commercially viable indoor production methods that will benefit the wider pig supply base.
The awards are sponsored by Linkfresh, EBLEX, Multivac, Reiser and the Meat Training Council.
