Seafish announced the appointment of Mel Groundsell as corporate relations director.
Based in the Seafish Edinburgh office, Groundsell will lead the organization’s work to communicate on behalf of the UK seafood industry and will take responsibility for key aspects of the Seafish corporate plan.
Groundsell has nearly 30 years of experience in corporate communications, having held a wide variety of roles and organizations and latterly headed up the communications program that helped deliver the new Scottish Fish and Rescue Service.
In her new role, Groundsell will be tasked with leading communications on all aspects of the UK fishing industry and is responsible for industry liaison, government relations, stakeholder engagement and consumer campaigns.
“I’m delighted to be here at Seafish and to add my weight to the important work we are delivering. There are a number of complex issues ahead and if we are to really live up to our promise as the authority on seafood, we must drive a coherent engagement strategy that can meet the needs of our very broad range of stakeholders and help secure a profitable and sustainable future for the U.K. seafood industry,” said Groundsell.
“Mel’s experience extends across the corporate communications mix and the considerable expertise she brings will add great value to our ongoing work to promote, protect and inform,” said Paul Williams, Seafish CEO.
