Spanish vegetable exports increased in 2013

According to Fepex, Spanish vegetable export rose about 10% in the last year to 4.68 million tons. Just over a fifth of export products consisted of tomatoes (1 million tons, +11%), reports the German Agricultural Information bureau (AMI).

In second and third place of the export statistics were lettuce (680,000 tons; +6%) and peppers (564,000 tons; +12%). With the exception of potatoes and sweet corn, there were more vegetables exported in 2013 than in 2012. The largest individual recorded growth was for beans (20,500 tons; +50%) and pumpkins (23,000 tons; + 40%). The value of vegetable exports lay at 4.33 billion Euro.

95% of vegetables produced were exported to EU countries, Germany being the largest market receiving 24% of the Spanish vegetable export.
