The first consignment of 3500 KG Pakistani “Sindhri” mangoes has arrived at Houston, Texas, where the high quality fruit is receiving a tremendous response.
Currently, the mangoes from the first consignment are being marketed at stores in Houston, Austin and Dallas.
According to the Pakistani embassy, more consignments of mangoes are expected to arrive at Houston in two weeks.
The retail price of the 2.5 kg mango pack is $25, which has been termed as fair, considering the superior quality of Pakistani mangoes, which are famous for their fragrance and sweet juice.
The U.S. is a favoured destination for mango exporters, where there is considerable demand for delicious Pakistani mangoes.
Pakistan’s Ambassador in Washington, Jalil Abbas Jilani welcomed this initiative by Farm House Exports (PVT) Ltd. at Karachi and Famous Foods Products at Houston in bringing Pakistani mangoes to the United States, which is in line with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s policy of diversification of exports to the American market.
The ambassador encouraged other mango exporters to follow suit, and assured them of maximum facilitation by the Embassy of Pakistan and Consulates in the United States.
He appreciated the U.S. Department of Agriculture for allowing additional irradiation facilities in the U.S. which will allow the expansion of market area for Pakistani mangoes.
