Early potatoes are under threat, with less demand than normal and competition from ware potatoes, the sector has decided to take action.
Reference to early potatoes increased in June and radio messages were broadcast over 3 weekends in June (between the 12th and 28th June). Many shops responded by offering the first early potatoes of the season to consumers. There are still many opportunities to increase the presence of early potatoes. (47% presence in sales points of 2.5kg sachets in week 26 compared to 54% in 2013 and 63% in 2011).
The CNIPT underlines that early potatoes can be marketed until the 15th August. The radio campaigns will get going again this week until the 12th July. With messages broadcast on international and motorway radio, holiday makers leaving this weekend will know all about early potatoes and should be inspired to buy them.
