A spill of ccaustic sodaaustic soda in the Tea River in the town of Mondariz, has caused the death of thousands of fish along two miles of the channel.

More than 5,000 dead fish of different sizes with a total weight of 250 kilos were removed from the river, but many still need removing, reports FaroDeVigo.

The pollution is thought to be due to human error which led to two thousand liters of water with caustic soda entering the river instead of through the usual system that prevents it from happening.

The accident was instantly realized and the emergency protocol, that mobilizes the Service Nature Protection Civil Guard (Seprona), was activated.
