French Agriculture Minister Stéphane Le Foll this week met with representatives of the workers at the threatened slaughterhouse GAD Josselin.
The meeting follows a letter sent by the workers to the Prime Minister Manuel Valls airing their concerns over the situation of their slaughter threatened with closure.
The agriculture minister’s office said that the meeting took place in an atmosphere of listening and dialogue and allowed for a constructive exchange on the maintenance of activity at the plant and the prospects for recovery with the retailer Intermarché as part of a bid.
The details of the recovery plan are expected to be known by the end of the month.
Mr Le Foll repeated his confidence in the future of the company and the French pig industry in general.
He said he was aware of the current financial difficulties of the company and to ensure that work continued at the plant until the takeover by Intermarché take place and is filed with the Commercial Court, he said he would ensure an early implementation of the tax credit CICE (Crédit d’impôt pour la compétitivité e l’emloi).
Mr Le Foll said that action was being taken by the public authorities and full employment at the plant was a priority over the coming months.
