Shorthorns Peak at 7,000 Guineas at Carlisle

Male champion and top price went to Gilven Guardsman TI +28, SRI +21 (pictured above), a two year old dark roan by the 4,000gns Glenisla Zetor and out of a Bilsdale bred dam. Bred and exhibited by RS and G Johnson, Huby, York, he sold to Neil and Graeme Massie, Aboyne, Aberdeen.

Next at 4,500gns was the reserve male champion, Castlemount Homer TI +18, SRI +16, a two year old roan Kilfrush Roulette son and out of a Craigfaddock dam from D McDowell, Newtownards, County Down. The buyer was WS Brownrigg, Millbeck, Keswick.

A bid of 4,000gns secured Aberdona Greengrass TI +14, SRI +13 for S and J Redpath, Alyth, Blairgowrie. This 23 month old light roan was by Millerston Dolomite and out of a Wavendon dam from R and C Rettie, Alloa.

Heading the female trade at 4,800gns was the two year old roan, Oakleigh Gabriella, a Blelack Masterpiece daughter and out of an Endeavour bred dam from Peter Turnbull’s 20 cow herd, Kildale, Whitby. She sold to RJ Baudains, Nunnington, York. Minutes before, the same buyer invested 2,700gns in the reserve female champion, Oakleigh Lovely Gina, another two year old by Masterpiece.

The day’s second highest female at 4,000gns was Podehole Joyful Gossip TI +0, SRI +3, a two year old roan heifer by Trojan of Craigeassie and sold in calf to the 10,500gns Millerston Fine Idea. Bred and exhibited by Charles and Sally Horrell, Thorney, Peterborough, she sold to Rumsden, Jarvis Brook, Crowborough.

The Horrells went on to sell each of their seven, two year old heifers, by Trojan of Craigeassie and in calf to Millerston Fine Idea. Next at 3,800gns was the white Podehole Gypsy Greta TI +14, SRI +10 to Rumsden.
