Trevor Abrahams, owner of Trevor’s Farm, says that growing conditions in the 2015/2016 season have been challenging due to the drought and heat. “Although the fruit size on the early varieties were good, the later varieties have been a little smaller. Stone fruit volumes have also been slightly lower, but the pomefruit volumes have remained at a normal level.”
Trevor’s farm are currently harvesting Yellow Cling Peaches, as well as Packham Pears. They supply local supermarkets, and process fruit for canning and juice. Abrahams says, “We export to the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Prices have been good in the European market and the exchange rate is in the favour of export.”
Abrahams explained that China is is not currently on their export list due to the prices of fruit. The farm has not been planting new varieties for the Asian market.
Trevor's Farm started in 2000 in Ceres, the valley of fertility. The farm was developed by Trevor's family from scratch on virgin soil under the Land Reform Program.
