Hampton Creek Baking Mixes Recalled for Salmonellla

Hampton Creek baking mixes are being recalled for Salmonella. At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported, however consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Salmonella can cause serious illness.

The recall was initiated after the company learned that one of its ingredients, Native Forest Coconut Milk Powder, which accounts for less than 1.31 percent of the mixes, tested positive for Salmonella. Hampton Creek notified Native Forest and their distributor.

The recall includes the following mixes: 20 oz White Cake Mix with UPC 854829006886 and Sell By Date: 5/25/2017;  Cinnamon Roll Cake Mix with UPC 854829006442 and Sell By Date: 5/28/2017;  Chocolate Chunk Muffin Mix with UPC Code: 854829006565 and Sell By Date: 6/6/2017; Yellow Cake Mix with UPC 854829006428 and sell by dates 6/2/2017 and 7/13/2017, Blueberry Muffin Mix with UPC Code: 854829006855 and Sell By Date: 6/4/2017; and Devil’s Food Cake Mix with UPC Code: 854829006435 and Sell by date: 6/7/2017.

“As part of Hampton Creek’s testing program, 30 Native Forest Coconut Milk Powdersamples were pulled and tested. 29 of the samples tested negative and one sample tested positive for Salmonella. 74 additional samples taken from other lots of theNative Forest Coconut Milk Powder tested negative,” according to Hampton Creek.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. I

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products should discard them or return them for a full refund.
