The Canadian government is set to create a working group comprised of farmers and processors from the poultry and egg sectors.

In order to fully provide support, the group will develop strategies to help farmers adjust to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The group will also focus on the impact of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay said: “This working group will ensure the voices of the hardworking men and women who are building and growing our farm businesses are heard and reflected, as we develop a path forward to ensure our poultry and egg sectors remain strong and competitive well into the future.

“Together, we will make sure our industries are well-positioned to thrive.”

The working group has already initiated an informal engagement with the sectors.

In addition to focusing and discussing impacts of the trade agreements in the short term, the group will create a path forward to help the sectors innovate and remain an important source of jobs and economic growth for next generations.

Throughout the collaboration process, the federal government will involve with the provincial, as well as the territorial governments on an ongoing basis.

MacAulay also announced working groups comprised of dairy farmers and processors, involving officials from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, national dairy organisations and regional representatives.
