Core Tip: Oranges, strawberries, and cherries begin to dominate the fruit stalls as we enter winter.
Oranges, strawberries, and cherries begin to dominate the fruit stalls as we enter winter. The price of most imported fruits is quite high as they have only just entered the market, generally in small volumes. Cherries are not cheap in early winter.

One professional in fruit purchasing explained that cherry production areas in Chile suffered from hailstorms during harvest season, which ruined many cherries for the market. The production volume decreased by an estimated 30%-40%. The cherries currently on the market, however, were harvested before the hailstorms, and the price fluctuation is quite similar to last year.

He further speculated that the price of imported cherries will remain relatively high this year as a result of reduced production volume. This also means that consumers are not likely to buy Chilean cherries for less than 100 yuan [14.55] per kg after the end of December when Chilean cherries enter the market in large volumes.
