Good-quality Yunnan bananas currently sell for 4 yuan [0.59 USD] per kg. People in the industry state that many different factors contribute to the weak price in production areas. First, there is a limit to the consumption volume in the banana market and visiting traders are hesitant to purchase bananas for storage. Second, it is difficult for visiting traders to purchase bananas during Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019], so many banana farmers are eager to sell their bananas before Spring Festival, and their asking price is therefore not strong. At the same time, the product quality declined as a result of cold weather and the price consequently decreased as well.
