The Chongqing Daily reported an overall price increase for bananas in Fengdu County. The highest price increase was as much as 50%. Some traders say that the bananas take longer to mature because the temperature has recently been quite cold. The market supply is therefore smaller and so the price goes up. Furthermore, the cold weather makes transport more difficult, which adds to the cost price. On top of that, the price of bananas increases as consumer demand for bananas grows in the weeks leading up to Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019].
