Producers in the northern Jordan Valley have confirmed that the citrus production this campaign has been reduced by 25 percent compared to the previous one, mostly due to the late rainy season.
They said that the late start of the rainy season contributed to delaying the ripening of the fruits, making it impossible to obtain good prices for the crop, especially at the start of the season, when prices are usually relatively high due to the low supply in the markets.
Citrus fruits are usually the most profitable crop for producers in the northern Jordan Valley, which is famous for having up to 60,000 dunams (6,000 hectares) devoted to their cultivation.
