Chicory sales have been slow in the past few weeks, but according to Sjan van Gorsel of packing company Reijnpack in Sint-Philipsland, In Holland things are improving slightly. “The market was under pressure due to large supplies, but cold weather is once again boosting demands. Right now chicory prices are between 50 and 70 cents. The all-in is sold between 1.05 and 1.15 Euro. Sjan states that Belgium, Germany and to a lesser degree Scandinavia are the largest buyers. “Export to Italy is compromised; there is some stiff competition there from French produce.”
