Growers from the German state of Brandenburg have harvested 31,570 kg apples per hectare this year.

The Statistical Office Berlin-Brandenburg has said that the result surpassed all the forecasts of the beginning of the season with 23,000 kg per hectare. It is the highest yield per hectare since the German reunification. A total of 35,710 tons of apples were harvested (2011: 6,250 tons).

While last year’s yield was extremely low with 5.220 kg per hectare (caused by frost), this year the weather was very favourable throughout. There were some quality issues due to heavy hailstorms, causing 40% of the harvest to be sold to the processing industry.
