Thomas Canning is set to build a fruit and vegetable processing facility in Essex County, Ontario, Canada, in line with its efforts to expand its presence in the country and overseas.
In support of the project, the company will receive $3m in funding from the province.
The facility will process a significant amount of locally grown tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables.
The investment is expected to support local farmers and create 40 new full-time jobs, while allowing the company to develop new products.
To be completed in over three years, the project would contribute more than C$34m to the local economy.
Premier and Minister of Agriculture and Food Kathleen Wynne said, "The government's support for this project will bring jobs and economic opportunities to the region."
Thomas Canning vice president Bill Thomas said, "Because of the funding we received from the Government of Ontario, our company will now be in a position to create more good local jobs and grow our business domestically and internationally."
Since 1933, Thomas Canning has been processing and canning tomatoes in the Essex County.
