A six-member delegation from The Gambia is set to visit the United States to tour poultry establishments and related institutions, and meet relevant public and private sector officials.

According to Gambia's The Daily Observer, the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) and the United States Department for Agriculture facilitated the trip, according to the US embassy in Banjul.

The permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Naffie Barry, will lead the delegation, according to the same source.

Other members are: Dr Makie Taal, permanent secretary, Ministry of Health; Abdoulie Jammeh, director of Trade; Zainab Jallow, acting director, Food Safety and Quality Authority; Dr Abdou Ceesay, director of Livestock Services; and Honourable Bintanding Jarju, National Assembly member for Foni Bintang.

"The visit will enable officials from The Gambia to interact face-to-face with the US poultry processing system and US government officials for the purpose of enhancing the food and poultry business systems in their country.

"They will become familiar with US technology and agribusiness and rural enterprise operations by consulting with government, food and rural business system experts in the United States.

"In addition to touring a poultry facility, they will meet with Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) in Washington DC," the embassy indicated.
