Affected by mass death caused by anoxia in Yangjiang, Liusha port, Dongli and other sea waters due to water quality change in mid-August and by anoxia in Tieshan port, Qinzhou port, Yangjiang etc. where farmers took rush-harvest, owing to ichthyophthiriasis in early September, pond stock and price of golden pomfret were all exceedingly impacted in production regions. The price suffered a sharp drop during the disease breakout period, as low as 3-5 yuan/500g (even 1 yuan/500g in some regions).
Although the price has been gradually back to normal at present but still at low level. Mainstream price in producing region are 9.6 yuan/500g for 350g size, 10 yuan/500g for 400g size, 10.6 yuan/500g for 450 size and 11 yuan/500g for 500g size, about 5-6 yuan/500g lower than that in September and October last year, which are the best season.
It’s known that overall pond stock has dropped by more than 40% because of the disease and anoxia, which is even not up to 30% in Tieshan port, Qinzhou port and so on. Although the death accident has already stopped in farming regions, the fish still feed and grow slowly. But, according to some industry insiders’ speculation, fish price would go up in the near future as the pond stock goes low.
