The Sykes Company, Rio Rico, Ariz., announced this week that it is unveiling the Palo Alto Organics brand for hard squash in partnership with its growers in Mexico. The company will roll out the new organic offerings, consisting of butternut and spaghetti squash, over the next week.

“Our organic squash will be available in all standard sizes and the quality is looking really good. We are proud to have diversified into this category that strongly resonates with consumer values,” said Lesley Sykes.

The Sykes Company plans to expand organic volume and product offerings for its spring deal. This news follows the company’s previous announcement that it has hired Lesley Sykes as executive vice president. Formerly with SCS Global Services and Red Tomato, she has more than 10 years of experience in fresh produce, with a focus on product differentiation strategy and sustainability.

“We have been thoughtfully making investments in the Palo Alto brand over the last 35 years in tandem with our grower-partners. Getting into organics is yet another way to demonstrate the responsible growing practices that we represent,” said owner and president, Bill Sykes.

The Sykes Company specializes in watermelon and hard squash and has been shipping out of the Nogales area since 1978.
