Banana prices are different in various production areas throughout China. Guangxi and Guangdong suffer from a cold wave and the price shows a slight, intermittent decrease; the price in production areas in Yunnan gradually recovers from a downward trend last week and is slightly rising again; the price in Laos and Myanmar is relatively stable, but the price of top-quality bananas from Laos already surpassed the price of bananas in Guangxi.
The recent cold wave in China has had different effects on various banana production areas. Guangxi and Guangdong suffered the worst damage, which is clearly visible in banana prices there. Some banana plantations in Guangxi temporarily halted supply, and the overall banana trade volume became smaller.
Industry analysts say that as the influence of the cold wave becomes stronger the price of affected bananas in Guangxi will fall further, but the price of top-quality bananas will slightly increase. This is of course on the condition that some banana plantations will avoid or minimize the effects of the cold wave. Laos and Myanmar benefit from traders who turn their attention to their top-quality bananas. There is still room for their banana prices to increase in the coming week.
