Borneo’s Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) is confident there will be enough supplies of vegetables and other crops throughout the country, to cope with the monsoon season. Its chairman Ishak Ismail said it was earlier predicted that several states would be hit by floods between November and December, but it did not happen this year.
“Thankfully the states were not hit by floods and i hope it will stay this way until the end,” he told reporters at a customer engagement program at the Fama headquarters in Johor Bahru yesterday. Ishak added that Fama through the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) had also distributed 50,000 flood preparation kits worth RM 1 million, nationwide.
Meanwhile, Ishak said for 2019 Fama intends to promote agricultural production and farming as a career among young people. To date, 43,000 students in public universities and other institutions of higher learning have registered with the MyAgrosis Club aimed at exposing youths to agriculture and entrepreneurship.
