Trinchero Family Estates, a California-based owner and producer of Trinity Oaks wine brand, has started bottling of Trinity Oaks wines in new plant-based capsules made from EarthFirst Polylactic Acid (PLA) film.

The initiative is to reduce the usage of harmful petrochemical based films and switch to more sustainable and environmental friendly PLA films for bottling wines.

The compostable capsules were developed in partnership with Plastic Suppliers and North Carolina-based Maverick Enterprises.

Made from carbon-neutral biopolymer, the capsules are manufactured in greenhouse neutral facility using renewable technology like solar and wind. Moreover, the EarthFirst PLA film material used is also certified compostable and the aluminum disk on the top of bottle is also recyclable.

Trinchero Family Estates COO and president Bob Torkelson said the company is dedicated to protecting the earth and its natural resources.

"Both Earth Day and Arbor Day celebrate the environment and encourage people to plant and care for trees, which we thought was a fitting time to commemorate our commitment," Torkelson added.

Maverick Enterprises president Steve Otterbeck said, "At this time, Trinity Oaks is the first and only wine capsule we have made with this PLA technology, which shows how committed they are to sustainable efforts."
