Core Tip: Russian food safety agency Rosselkhoznadzo has imposed a temporary ban on meat product imports from ten processing plants in Brazil.
The agency said that the processing plants in Brazil have failed to comply with phytosanitary measures, reported Reuters citing Russian new agency Interfax.

Of the eight beef processing plants, three of them are owned by Marfrig, while JBS owns two.

Brazil's beef export association Abiec said that the country will still be able to export meat products from its network of 28 plants that are not banned by Rosselkhoznadzo.

Abiec president Antonio Camardelli was quoted as saying: "There is no commercial problem of any kind... If I can't export here, I'll export from there."

Last year, Russia was second major market to import Brazilian beef after Hong Kong.

Earlier this month, China lifted a three-year old ban on Brazilian beef imports. In 2012, China suspended beef imports from Brazil over a mad cow disease scare.
