Recently, China National Fisheries Technology Extending Center released its survey report of oyster farming situation in China in 2015.

A total of 14 farming information collecting stations were allocated in 4 provinces in China, 1 in Zhejiang, 5 in Fujian, 4 in Guangdong, and 4 in Guangxi. The total farming area in which the information was collected was more than 42, 707 mu.

According to the collected statistics in the whole nation, there are three main features in oyster farming in 2015: quantity of oyster fry stocked dropped but species increased; pond catches and prices decreased year by year; farming losses reduced compared with that in last year, but oyster marketing was just moderate, and farming and production activity was not active.

The quantity of fry stocked in ponds is 17, 598, dropping by 82.09% year on year. The weight of stocked oyster of different species is 2, 207 tonnes, increasing by 190.39% year on year.

The pond catches, revenue and average unit price were 16, 709.87 tonnes, 57, 246, 600 yuan and 3.42 yuan/kg, down by 52.32%、65.12% and 26.92% respectively year on year. In pond catches, it increased by 14.93% year on year in Zhejiang province, but dropped sharply both in Fujian and Guangdong province, 52% above while it grown by 3.78% in Guangxi province year on year. With regard to comprehensive pond price, it dropped by 29.15% year on year in Guangdong province but increased by 32.25% in Guangxi while it remains the same in Fujian and Zhejiang. As for the pond revenue, Zhejiang and Guangxi increased by more than 14% while Fujian and Guangdong decreased by more than 60%.

The farming scale of oyster farming in China is huge and the production is high. Most of the oysters are sold fresh or live. However, owing to he relatively outdated processing technology and single variety, present processed products are still dried oysters, oyster oil, and canned oyster product, which are traditional oyster products. As a result, the oyster products China exports are mainly frozen oyster meat and canned oyster whose export amount is small and output value is low.

Based on the 2015 statistics analysis, if effective disaster protection and relief measures are taken, it’s estimated that the oyster production in 2016 would keep stable growth trend as much oyster fry stocking is changed into different species stocking. Meanwhile, compared with production and supply increase, oyster market demand also increases, which somehow shows the marketing status.
