This year’s Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America was the largest ever, according to Diversified Communications, the show’s producer and parent company of SeafoodSource.
The show, held in Boston on 16 to 18 March, increased 6 percent over last year’s event, with a total of 1,113 exhibitors spread over 197,430 square feet at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 20,000 seafood professionals attended the exposition.
“It is exciting to watch the exposition continue to expand over the years,” said Liz Plizga, Show Director for Diversified Communications. “Growth can be attributed to the strength of the economy and an attractive U.S. market for international suppliers.”
The expo also featured the annual oyster shucking competition, crowning Deborah Pratt the winner. The first female competitor to ever win, Pratt was dubbed the “fastest shucker in the east.”
Also at the expo, retail and foodservice companies King & Prince Seafood and High Liner Foods won in their categories at the Seafood Excellence Awards, showing off new products.
The show also featured a conference and master class program, offering sessions on major industry topics and demonstrations on how to source, select, handle and prepare oysters, wild salmon and American lobster.
Next year’s event will be held 15 to 17 March 2015.
